After much online research over places to stay for our first visit to Key West, I decided upon The Gardens Hotel. We were celebrating our 15th anniversary so we wanted something special - relaxed yet elegant and small w/a beautiful atmosphere. We were delighted with my choice! All in all...great trip and we would definitely return and stay again at the Gardens Hotel.

Esp loved the porch/comfy chairs and of course the lush garden area with fountains and winding paths...don*t miss the turtles...the wonderful smell of gardenia blowing in the wind was intoxicating! |

The continental breakfast was plentiful and enjoyable, and the service very good. Drinks and cocktails were nice, too. |

Drinks from the bar poolside was a nice touch in the late afternoons...looked like the Brits layed poolside a bit more of the day but we were up and about...of course now I wish I would have *relaxed* more on my *relaxing* vacation!
Continental breakfast was plentiful and enjoyable on the patio...staff was very helpful/friendly.

Great pool with plenty of deck-chairs, towels etc. Also loved the pool bar - the cocktails are excellent! |

The room was very nice, bed was very comfortable, nice bathroom w/refrigerator and complementary bottled water. Only wish I would have been on the top floor as I could hear a bit of noise from above...or could have been next door?? I am a very light sleeper. |

Tips & recommendations |

We flew into Ft.Lauderdale and rented the convertable for the drive down. It was soo beautiful (the weather was great during our entire stay) and relaxing. Stopped for lunch in Islamorada at the Island Grill - LOVED this quaint place on the water - don*t remember the MM...it was just over a bridge on the left hand side heading South...if you blink you*ll miss the sign. We loved it so much we stopped there again on our return drive.
In Key West we ate at Pisces...VERY Expensive (our anniversary dinner)...excellent food and service but not as good of a value as Hot Tin Roof (Ocean Key Resort) - which, while also expensive, had excellent food (more of it too) and a nicer atmosphere inside and of course a lovely view out over the water. If I had to pick just one to return to, it would be the Hot Tin Roof.
Also at at Sloppy Joes (lunch/touresty but fun w/live music, etc.) and Kelly*s (lunch) - also good and had another dinner at Turtle Kraals...good food, inexpensive, local place at the marina area. Rented a moped for a day - definitely do this...best way to see the island...really enjoyed that. Did a snorkel tour with Echo 4 hrs $75/pp...it was nice but expensive (there were only 4 of us on the boat so it*s more private) - the crew was great...saw some wild dolphins and went snorkeling which was very disappointing..the best part was just relaxing on the catamaran. We had wanted to do the seaplane thing out to the reef which I believe would have been much better snorkeling but they were booked - so plan ahead if you want to do that. |
