As part of our visit to Florida we took time out to go down to the Keys. Unfortunately Hurricane Dennis had just tried to do his worst down there! Anyway they reopened the airport the day we were due to fly into Key West, but all the debris and flooding in the streets was a bit of a shock. But once out of the taxi and into the tranquillity of The Gardens Hotel we were totally smitten.
The welcome could not have been warmer and although we arrived before the normal check in time and had just hoped to leave our bags somewhere secure, we were invited to sit in the wonderful garden and offered drinks while we waited a short time for our room to be ready.
The hotel is a wonderful well kept old wooden house set in botanical gardens which looked wonderful with its lush foliage, flowers and butterflies. We were later told that the day before we arrived the gardens had looked in a pretty poor state, but they had had a team of twenty or so in clearing up Dennis*s mess.

As above mentioned, the hotel is set in botanical gardens with lovely flowers, butterflies etc. The neighbourhood was also simply great! |

The staff and owner Kate were friendly and so helpful, nothing was too much trouble whether it was calling a taxi, recommending somewhere to eat (they even have a file full of menus for all sorts of eateries) or where to visit, then wanting to know how we enjoyed it when we got back.

We only had breakfast, but breakfast was very delicious, and service there was very attentive and friendly, too. |

The pool was great, clean and warm and well situated next to the pool bar - great cocktails! Plenty of sunbeds and chairs and the option to lounge in the sun or the shade.

Rooms

|
Our room was a Courtyard Room with a shared verandah although we always had it to ourselves. The room itself was superb. It was large with lovely wood flooring; huge very comfortable bed; sofa; writing desk; pivoting wall mounted TV etc. Heaven - we almost never wanted to go out.

You should definitely try the pool and the poolbar. Great cocktails! For further recommendations just ask the friendly and helpful staff. |
